You know the experience when everything just feels right? You know it when you are there. We sometimes find ourselves there after meditation or when we are fully engaged in something we love. When I find that place in me I describe it as feeling connected and whole. I feel at ease in my body. There is no struggle there or churning emotions. There is simply awareness and ease. From this point I feel that I can speak my truth and I am kind and loving all at the same time. There is no effort. I am open and listening at the same time. For me being able to stay in this relaxed simple place of awareness and ease (I say ease rather grace because of it’s religious overtones) is my goal. To entirely live from this place is what I want to do. In sports it is called being in the zone. Eckart Tolle calls it sitting in the silence. I call it heart centered awareness, because that discription helps prompt me into being there. For me the doorway into this space seems to be dropping my attention down into my heart and then looking out from behind my eyes while holding that connection to my heart. To me it is a way of being and a way of life.
There is a well know expression “The journey is the destination.” This also points to what I am talking about. Just as in music or in dance, the goal is not to get to the end of the song or dance, but to experience the emotion, meaning and joy of its expression. So if you want to experience the dance of life, drop into this space. From this heart centered space expression and creativity arise. From here insights emerge, but it is really our effort to sit with an openness and the willingness to let go of everything and not know anything that allows these creative thoughts to spring forth. For me there is much more to express when I am in this zone and what comes out just feels real, honest and true. Sometimes I want to get up and do something different because it is so hard to maintain, because in truth it requires an act of attention to maintain this zone of awareness. Sometimes it’s hard not to fall asleep because there is so much relaxation there. But ultimately this is the place to be. This is home. This is really what we all are looking for even if we can’t tolerate it sometimes. Even if we are impatient, or need to have some stimulation. Moving in and out of this space is the journey. Coming back home again and again. Finding our peace again and again. This is our journey.
So even if you want to get up and scream about it, it’s okay. It’s okay to let it go and come back to it later. The truth is, it is where we are all headed because it is where we are all from. It is the space or consciousness we all share. In that peaceful stillness we can acknowledge that there is no where to go and no thing to do other than to allow ourselves more and interesting ways to help us access and live in this wonderful space I call heart centered awareness. The space where there is nothing to gain and nothing to loose, and there is just life to experience and savor in all its glory and creative abundance regardless of our so called “difficulties.” We can be home whenever we choose to be. So let’s make the choice more often.
