Yoga

Yoga for the body, mind, & soul

Are you a practicing yogi? A once in a while yogi? A wounded yogi? A wish you were a yogi? Whatever you are we welcome you. At Sanctuary Yoga you can come as you are and leave refreshed, restored, renewed, and recharged!

Like the symbol of the spiral, the spiritual journey is one in which the destination is reached when we return to the Self. The postures represent just such a return to the Self. As we bend forward or twist our bodies we curve our awareness back toward ourselves, looking inward to find the stillness in our center. As we learn to surrender and release into that return, we can recuperate from the outward actions of our busy everyday lives, taking solace in self-reflection. This movement inward is like the coiling action of a spring, and is the necessary precursor to our uncoiling into our next project, activity, or growth spurt. Without it we can become like elastic that has been stretched too far: unable to return to its original length, it loses its ability to hold things together.

~ Donna Farhi

Haleya’s gentle and mindful approach focuses on engaging the rest and digest parasympathetic nervous system so that you may restore and heal your body, mind, and soul. She hopes you'll join her in connecting to that deep quiet sanctuary within.

Yoga FAQs

What tradition does Haleya teach from? Expand

Haleya has been trained In Embodyoga® at the Yoga Center Amherst, Amherst MA. Embodyoga®, created by Patty Townsend, is based in Hatha, Tantric and Body Mind Centering. Haleya has a special interest, both as a counselor and yoga teacher, in mental wellness. She has completed a 40 hour training in Trauma Sensitive Yoga with the Trauma Center @ JRI. What if I have an injury? Expand

Haleya can offer you alternatives so you don’t stress out an injury. You may also opt for a private 1:1 session to help you learn a customized adapted yoga sequence so you can continue to practice yoga without injuring yourself further. If you have an injury, if possible please let Haleya know before coming to class.

How gentle is gentle? Expand

Gentle is a relative word! I’ve been to “gentle” classes that were soooo gentle I didn’t feel all that much of a benefit. I’ve been to “gentle” classes that are actually “moderate” classes. The yoga you’ll enjoy here is probably half way between these two examples. Haleya will often give alternatives to each pose. Always know that you can slow down and come into Child’s pose anytime you want, and likewise, if you need more sensation you can turn up the flame. The most important thing is that YOU are in charge of your yoga practice. Modify the poses to meet your own needs.

What if I’ve never taken a yoga class? Expand

Haleya will quietly help orient you when you arrive. This is a gentle enough class so that you can come in and follow along. Haleya gives good solid guidance and you have your yoga mates to watch. We are not here for a competition, so whoever and however you are, you are welcome here.

What if I want to do yoga, but I don’t want to come to a group yoga class Expand

Haleya does offer 1:1 sessions. You can decide if this is for you. Otherwise you might be better off following online yoga courses. Feel free to contact Haleya if you need help in deciding what is best for you.

Thank you for the class last night.  You said you were honored - well, we were.  It was like a guided meditation, and I think the very best moment was at the end when we all laughed in one joyous exhalation. Taught with love, love flowing back. Doesn’t get much better!    ~ B.M.

I really enjoyed the yoga class, gentle, but still builds strength and power.  ~ W.R.

The whole thing was very deep and the Reiki you gave went right to the core.  It was pretty much a package experience, body and soul.  ~ B.M.
